exactly, and therefore transfering "heirloom only" armor and weapons that would not mix or be tradeable with other players would be entirely justified. i completely agree that any such tradeable wealth that could interfere with the economy should be left out. Hell, turn your 1,000 ecto into cold hard cash before ecto falls like fire and get fow for all your chars this weekend, prolly a bit too early for action like that, but if armor and weapons would be transferable then this would be ideal.

Yeah, that's an excellent idea, having your stuff transferred.

Only, hey, 100 years have passed and there's been inflation, you know. I blame those Canthan peasants and their overfarmi-- I mean, overproduction.

ID kit: 100,000 gold a piece
Low level key: 600,000 gold a piece
Some generic spooky rare material: 10,000,000 gold a piece

Luckily, monsters drop gold accordingly also.

So much for the family fortune.

Oh and that 100-year-old max damage perfect crystalline 15^50? Sure thing, mate, go get it.

Only, you know that max damage of swords has gone up to 75-110, right? I mean, level 100 cap, they're not going to bother with swords that are req 9 when you'll probably have at least 40 swordsmanship by then. So sure, keep swinging around your 15-22 vintage toothpick while you get pounded in the bum by the most generic white drop around.

Seriously people, it's a new game... Let it be new!

Pump up swordsmanship to 40 you say? Then you'd pump up Protection Prayers accordingly, amirite? Why the hell do it in the first place then. It's just unnessesary to change GW like that. Sure, introduce new skills, armour, graphs, maybe even an even MORE skill based approach - but don't reduce it to the kind of crap thirteen year old will "pwn" in a web cafe. Also, it might be easy for you to say to scrap your 15^50 Crystalline but it's all the different when it actually happens to you. How long have you played GW for? Having 2 years of sheer brilliance being thrown out the window just because ANet decides to market it's new game to scrubs who want a cheap version of WoW doesn't go over well. >_>

Yes, everybody complains (hell I sure do - 6v6 anyone?) but this not the way to go ANet. For people who want a good game $30 a month isn't much. Try and compete with WoW and they'll beat you ANet, they really will. Please read what Mendes wrote, because he's exactly right. For the record, what comes of Rurik? ^^

1 like stated many times, it is most likely a fact that you dont get more stat boost after a certain point. also you cant really judge the game by whats been said so far there is too little info (actually theres even less in the original post, reading the whole article changes alot of things)

2. if you dont know what happend to rurik, then you need to go beat chapter 1

It's...Guild...Wars...TWO!!

For all we know, there won't even be any Swordsmanship or Protection Prayers.

It's not even out yet, so quit bitching about it. With a first BETA in 2008 we might be looking at a 2009 release. Don't tell me you don't want something new by then.

You can still play Guild Wars. Actually you can keep playing it forever. People still play Diablo 2, even though Blizzard has made new games since.

And compete with WoW? How so? Guild Wars has never competed with WoW.

World of Warcraft is a great game, but it's simply not Guild Wars. Apples and oranges, you know?

What I hope is that they will deal with the current GW problems, like why aren't that much people playing PvP, the loads of spammers about WTS and WTB LFP, LFG, and all another things. I seriously hope they add an auctionhouse and there will be more social control in this game then there was in GW1.

I play both GuildWars and WoW, and ofcourse both games are completely different, but I can clearly see what are the difference ingame about social stuff and all that kind of things. In WoW they have an auctionhouse and seriously I'm not saying we should copy WoW but I have never ever seen on the server I play (Wildhammer) that there were people spamming whatever chat in general. And I can get almost everything I want from that auctionhouse and you can also make serious money with it.

The WoW party searching is another great tool, just set what you want to do, search and viola a group to instandly join, that's just awesome and it would be even for incredible use in GW.

Right now I've been playing WOW a bit and not because of the game content but more because it's loads more social. The people who say that's not true might be just on the wrong server or I might be just on the right one, but all by all I really hope GW got some serious things fixed to avoid the same problems comming up.

I'm really concerned about that all GW1 player join into GW2 and the first day already start spamming WTS, WTB, LFP, LFG, Selling, You mother is something I want to F-word. Ofcourse 1 guy doing this aint a problem but having this frequently in your chat makes me really stop play GW althought I love the game. Also they should balance the game that way that there is a possibility to farm but not to overfarm like in GW1. Just find a balance between golddrops and in that area prices for items, this balance is in WoW also quite good. Province that has low money drops does have low items costs, so better items can be bought at places where enemies are better but drop also lots more money.

I really really hope that th idea like FoW and Underworld will still excist in GW but are more something like WoW's dungeons where you have to go into with at least a group and do something like what WoW calls Raiding. The arenas feature for 100 ppl sounds wicked as hell, and I'm just uber curious what GW2 will have. But seriously I'm just thinking of continueing WoW or bother WoW and GW if the GW2 content is something I want to spend some free time into. I don't care about grinding hours to get a lvl as long I'm able to buy things, things are dropped I can use, social gameplay and previous problems are fixed. If I play GW2 and find the same problems as in GW1 I'm thinking to stop playing GW at all althought I like the lore, style and more.

Well, I don't mind at all that Guild Wars 2 will be a new game, and the only thing we'll get to carry over is the names... and I've been playing Guild Wars since June of 2005 and have 3 accounts with all three campaigns on them (with collectors editions) a special edition Prophecies account joined with a Nightfall, a stand alone Factions account and 2 stand alone Nightfall accounts (as well as a copy of Prophecies in the box that I haven't opened yet). Yes, that's a little excessive, but extra characters slots were not always available, and even when they were you can only make a purchase for one account per week per credit card (which I find stupid) but despite all that and the accounts I've purchased (yes, some are just storage accounts for items and such) I've still managed to purchase ten additional character slots for those accounts. I also have a slew of level 20 characters, most all my characters are at this point actually, and most are in Black outfits, many are in 15k or Vivian armor. I have to have at least eight characters to hold all the extra stuff I have gotten and saved, and I just save some of the rare, green, or occasionally max level gold stuff... and I've put in more than 4,500 hours of game play across those accounts since I joined... and I even quit playing for several month at one point. lol
Despite all that, despite all the titles and the gold and the items... I'm still not bothered by characters not being able to transfer over to Guild Wars 2. It's a totally different game, and Guild Wars will still be there... still playable, so all my stuff will still be there in Guild Wars.
I'm looking forward to a fresh start in Guild Wars 2, and hope very much that they add in more options like body type/style and redo the classes completely... which would make taking over old characters impossible because they'd just not fit in. This, I'm looking forward to.

Besides... have you ever played games like Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2? You can't take any of your old stuff over, same for most games when they make sequels... so why should Guild Wars be any different? The only people I can see being really upset by not being able to take characters over, are the people who spent money on eBay for Gold or Rare items, instead of earning them.

If there "won't even be any Swordsmanship or Protection Prayers." why call it Guild Wars? ANet should just launch it as a completely different game and let us enjoy our game without the risk of it dying. Since when does GWcompete with WoW? Lmfao? Read the OP and ask yourself that very same question, sir.

To answer your question, sure I'd like something new. New graphics, TA maps, HA maps, GvG maps, skills, mechanisms (keeping with the SKILL-BASED aspect ofc).. list goes on. But I want to be playing Guild Wars. I know that if GW2 is released all the scrubs who know they can't make it in GW will move on, leaving the players that appreciate GW in GW1. But the servers will be dead, it will just feel bad. And it will shut down. But wait, there's more. WoW will release some new crap (trust me, they have the money) and guess what? GW is back in the dirt, and they haven't got a unique game anymore. Go figure, dude.

Yeah. I agree. Let's just wait and see how much of a new game it really is... Afterall, there's going to be quite a bit of changes.

The "halls of monument" with transferring of titles and achievement? Hope it's not wearable/viewable on new game characters as it'll defeat any real purpose of a new game. Who wants to see a "Balthazar's Hero" from GW1 in GW2 when they never earned it in the new game right? All titles at best should remain at the "halls of monument" and never leave there...

There's sure a lot of junior Nostradamus' in this thread. It's way too early to get all hot under the collar. Seriously, playing GW for another 2 years and you'll get sick of it that you'll welcome the change.

It's not Guild Wars, it's Guild Wars 2. The fact that it has "Guild Wars" in its name implies it's a true sequel, not a (stand-alone) expansion.

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but in the end, ArenaNet has complete creative control over it. Heck, if they decide to make it a sci-fi setting, it will be a sci-fi setting (which it won't be, of course).

I, for one, am very eager to see what they will pull off.

The great thing about all this is: we lose nothing. If ArenaNet utterly fails (which I doubt) and no one likes Guild Wars 2, we can go back to Guild Wars 1.

Chess and checkers. The boards look similar, the games aren't.

Quote:

If anything, they will be emptier with more "hardcore" people still playing it since the "scrubs" will migrate to GW2.

Less quantity, more quality. Yay!

I really don't see how another WoW expansion or even WoW2 might affect me.

And then we're back at the basics of capitalism.

If Blizzard releases a product of better quality than Guild Wars 2 (let's say Diablo 3), with the same "No Monthly Fee"-model, then sure, bye bye Guild Wars 2.

I play Guild Wars because it's a great game, not because I feel somehow obliged to pay money to ArenaNet. They've earned my trust by releasing three great products, of course, but if someone else can do better with the same business model, then so be it.

Time will tell.

4 new Playable races:
• Sylvari
• Asuras
• Charr
• Norn
Radical changes - overhauled environment and character control system, redefined PvP play and retooled NPC companion system.

Predominately open worlds, with instancing as a secondary feature in some areas (not positive on the interpretation). Hundreds of people in the same area, and choices that the population as a whole change the quest structure. PCG gave an example of choosing to rally against a dragon or not. Those that help, gain loot and xp. If the dragon isnt driven away, another 'quest' may trigger, leaving more options for the population. Very cool idea IMO.

I'll just take the level cap stuff directly - "Events will also offer a way for players of different levels to keep interacting in the persistent world - which is crucial, since right now, ArenaNet is planning a very high [100-plus], or possibly no level cap"

'Click to move' will be abandoned in favor of a more freedom-rich control scheme, including 'jumping, swimming, and sliding'

Destroyable environments?

PvP World vs World combat sounds to be a massive scale capture the flag (AB style?) with no minimum or maximum party size. Big-ass raids that can supposedly take place for weeks on end. At the end, the 'world' will be reset, and it will start again it seems. More a casual version of PvP where you can pop in and out to perform various smaller tasks. Developers will reshuffle the teams into well-balanced match-ups every week or so.

Pretty similar boards.

^Such titles are displayed prominently in the Hall of Monuments. Also, Gaile mentioned that if you link your GW2 account to your GW1 account and name a character the same as from GW1- they automatically inherit their titles.

I'd definately be more interested in finding out more about the hall of monuments before passing any huge judgements. Will titles be transfered? Will ALL titles be transfered? "Heirloom" items? Minipets - ones your old character has or new ones representing that character, maybe CE minipets?

I feel like i should be excited, pretty much everyone else on the forum is......yet i just feel sad.

Playing the original guildwars seems pointless now they focusing on gw2, the new expansion i was originally excited about now feels like a cheap add on to boost more cash for gw2.........which initially feels like they are going after the wow crowd, that doesnt appeal to me at all.

I love the instant pick up and play feel to guildwars, with 100+ level caps i doubt that will remain in guildwars 2

time to move on to another game i think, thanks for 2 years of guildwars fun arenanet, but the direction you are moving in just isn't mine.

And still people are comparing GW2 to WOW. The Anet team left Blizzard for a reason folks. Anet did not like the way Blizzard was taking WOW. So why would Anet make another WOW clone? You people make no sense at all. How about having some faith in Anet who has created a game we all love to play, before you start bashing a game that no one knows more than 1/10th of what we have heard. Would be smarter to just wait and see instead of making Doom and Gloom posts. Please stop with the GW2/WOW comparisons because you are only making yourselves look foolish.
